From
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) to E.coli
outbreaks, public health threats are occurring on
international, national and local levels with greater
regularity and challenging Public Health Units to
adopt solutions to deal with these emerging and
complex threats. Pandemics and public health outbreaks
can originate from natural/organic sources or man-made
threats. Depending on the nature of the outbreak,
challenges can range from early detection, mitigating
panic and civil unrest to biodefense. In all of
these situations public health organizations need
to have proper situational awareness, and the ability
to collaborate and share information across multiple
agencies.
To address and improve preparedness and response
to a Pandemic/CBRNE event, AMITA is focused on partnering
with Public Health Organizations to find new solutions
to these emerging threats. AMITA has extensive expertise
in the medical triage and transport of casualties
in a large scale incident as well as in the field
of syndromic surveillance - the science of monitoring
indicator variables for the early detection an outbreak
prior to the establishment of diagnosis by traditional
means.
