overview
socius is commercial
off-the-shelf (COTS) software that captures highly
technical overviews of incidents involving the
terrorist/criminal use of CBRNE materials against
critical infrastructure, persons and agri-food
targets.
socius
provides a capability, not available within many
agencies around the world, to enter and share
a vast number of incidents amongst a large community
of responders.
socius’ database is a unique multi-lingual
format, designed to be internationally deployed
and fully interoperable. While socius can be used
on a day-to-day basis to record and share incident
information including render safe procedures among
first responders, its true strength lies in the
ability to exchange data and best practices globally.
socius will be used by over 500 subscribers across
Canada with representatives from several different
law enforcement and regulatory agencies. This
creates a new capacity to share CBRNE incident
information, for the first occasion, in near-real
time.
Several international bomb data centres have consulted
on socius during its production and testing to
ensure the goal of interoperability was achieved.
In addition, socius is currently being evaluated
by the INTERPOL Bio-terrorism Unit as an international
standard for recording and sharing incident information.
